A Big Surprise for Mama...

I got my Birthday and Christmas present very early this year! But, first I have to tell you the story behind it.
I almost always sleep with my cell phone on my bedside table unless it needs to be charged and then it's in the kitchen all night. So, Monday night I was lying in bed browsing FB and my news Apps before I went to sleep. I put my phone in its usual spot on by bedside table and drifted into my slumber. On Tuesday morning about 5:45 I was woken up to both boys' crawling into bed with me to snuggle before having to get up to get ready for work. So, at 6ish when I went to get the boys' settled before I got into the shower, I noticed that my phone was missing from my bedside table. I look all around, under, and in our bed with no luck. I then asked the 2 year old if he took it, he said 'yes' and then 'no' and then proceeded to take me on a little hunt around the house trying to 'show' me where he took it. No luck. Meanwhile, my Mom, who was down to watch the boys' for the day, came up from the basement. I updated her on my 'situation' and she helped me too. We tried to call my phone with her phone a few times with no luck. I tried to call Jeff at work to see if maybe he had taken my phone by mistake. No answer.  Well, I had to get ready for work so, I tried to put finding my phone out of my mind and proceeded to get ready for work.

So, now I am on my way to work and decided to run through Starbucks for a quick coffee. When I pulled up to the window for my coffee, I was informed that the person in front of me had paid for me! Great! I thought to myself, 'this day is looking up already!'

I get to work and send Jeff a quick email to fill him in on the 'situation'. We exchange a few emails about where the phone might be. His final reply is that he will look when he gets home from work.

I had to work late Tuesday night and didn't get home until after 8. I was pretty tired and was really not looking forward to my upcoming search mission. Jeff says that he is going to try and call my phone one more time and all of a sudden.......THIS BAD BOY IS RINGING MY NUMBER FROM THE KITCHEN COUNTER!!!!

I had a brief moment earlier that morning when I got to work if Jeff had taken my phone that morning to trade it in for an I Phone 5, but I was thinking that this was highly unlikely!
Well, he outdid himself and preordered it for me a few weeks ago and it was delivered on Tuesday for my Mom to sign for upon delivery to our house. He left work early on Tuesday to get it up and going for me at Verizon!

OK, I am totally not into technology, but I knew that this phone was coming out around the time that my contract would be up for renewal for Verizon so, I have had my eye on this puppy and knew that this is what I wanted for my Birthday and Christmas!!!

I love it so far, but I love Jeff so much for doing all of this for me!!!
Once again, I am one lucky girl!!!

Pumpkin Pickin

The boys' picked our their pumpkins yesterday afternoon! They are both very excited to carve them when it gets closer to Halloween. I had to capture these two cuties before church this morning with their prize pumpkins!

It was fun to pull out our sweaters with the cooler temps this morning! We made a quick trip to Michael's after church and picked up a few more Fall/Halloween decorations and now our house is all Fall beautiful!!

All Aboard

This morning Jeff had to work prior to kickoff and we sold our tickets to one of my coworker's so, the boys' and I took a ride on the Hawkeye Express!

Waiting for the train (it was a bit chilly this morning)
Here comes the train!!

We started our morning at Hy-Vee to fill up on donuts and chocolate milk/coffee.

Then, we headed down the street to buy our tickets! The boys' had a blast as we took two full trips to Kinnick Stadium and then back to Coralville.

During our first time back to Coralville, the train volunteers asked if the boys' would like to sit up by the train engineer. Of course we welcomed the invite! What a treat! The boys' got a front row seat and Mr Aiden even got to pull the train whistle!

Here are some fun facts about the Hawkeye Exress...

1. The Hawkeye Express is owned by the Iowa Northern Railway Company. With the exception, of the train engineers, all other workers' on game day are volunteers!

2. The Hawkeye Express started running back and forth to Kinnick Stadium in 2004

3. In the 1950 and 1960's, trains from all over Iowa traveled to Kinnick Stadium for nearly every home football game.
What a fun morning! We are going to spend the rest of the day watching our Hawkeye's at home this week. I promised the boys' that we would get our Halloween decorations out and go out to buy pumpkins if everyone took good naps this afternoon. What a great way to spend the first day of Fall!! Go Hawks!!

Gobble, Gobble!

So, I was browsing the Target Dollar Section this morning. I mean, I was minding my own business when I ran into these two crazy turkey's!!

They asked for popcorn so, I bought them some!
(because you know you have to fatten up those turkey's for the big day!)

Then, they followed me around the store asking for more stuff! Cars, trains, super hero shirts! Geez! Where did these turkey's come from?!?

They kind of grew on me so, I decided to take them home!

Gobble, gobble!!

Changes

I have been working my new Mon, Wed, Fri schedule for a few weeks now. It has been an adjustment as it has kind of 'messed' up my day off schedule a bit. I am not complaining so, please don't take it the wrong way, but when you have had Wednesday's off for the past five years our playdate schedules, community happenings, and my household chores schedule is needing some adjustment. But, I am really starting to fall into this new schedule quite well! Here are a few examples...

A) My workout schedule has now become Tues/Thurs afternoon's during nap and then one weekend morning. Meaning....no 5 am wake up call for this gal!
With that being said, 6 months ago I could have never made this work! The boys' were more 'needy' and I mean this in the nicest way! But they play so well together now and I can accomplish little household chores throughout the day while they are playing!

B) Tot Lot has the Bouncey Houses up on Tuesday's and it is 'Buy One Get One' admission to the Playstation on Tuesday's too! Which is going to make for some great and 'wear the boys out' activities this winter! Oh, and it's Storytime at B&N on Tuesday morning's too!

C) Laundry....it never ends! I cannot imagine what my laundry load is going to look like when the boys' throw in their sports gear into the mix in a few years! But, when I am only working one day at a time, I feel like I am keeping up on it much better! Weird...I know, but it's the little things for my Type A personality to feel in order..ha!

OK, enough about me!

(I sometimes have to add these random posts in so when I look back in the years to come, I can see how life was like for us in this season of life)

Anyway....this is how I found the boys' the other night watching Tom & Jerry before bed. Poor Jeff! He takes so much abuse with the constant wresting, but he can now add couch/recliner to his credentials!

I know that Jeff looks like he is in pain and possibly going into cardiac arrest, but I assure you he isA-okay!!!

Just a little chat...

While Jeff and I were cleaning up the supper dishes tonight, Aiden was using the bathroom. As I walked past the bathroom, both of the boys' were in there just having a little chat. Because that's what Brothers' do...right?!?...chat it up in the bathroom?!?

Ty was reading Aiden a book.

Aiden was talking politics with Ty. No joke! He was explaining to Ty who President Obama was in his own 4 year old version!

These boys' are becoming the best of buds and it just makes my heart melt.

School Days...

I had to share our 'First Day of School' pictures! Aiden is starting Monday, Wednesday, Friday Preschool this year and he is super excited to be back at Kinderfarm (http://www.kinderfarmpreschool.com/). We couldn't be more happy with Kinderfarm and it is a perfect fit for Aiden.

Tyson is also starting to go to his daycare center M,W,F as well. Over the past year, we have used a college student to watch the boys' at home on Monday's and then they would go to their respective schools/daycares on Tuesday/Thursday.

This year's picture was not emotional for me at all since Aiden has been going to Kinderfram all last year and through the summer, but I am sure I will be a wreck next Fall when he starts Kindergarten. Okay, I need to stop typing about it, because it brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it. Time is just going so fast and I know that in a blink of an eye, I will be planning his graduation party!

Enjoy!

Doing his Super Hero pose!

Brothers!

All ready to go!

Going All Super Nanny...

In my previous post, I referenced Super Nanny....and this folks is my Super Nanny, Jo Frost! I am not ashamed to admit that Jeff and I will on occassion watch this show, take mental notes, and put some of her antics into action with the boys'!

For example, Ty's recent sleeping problem....PURE FRUSTRATION!!!

                                                      BUT....
Jo has this all figured out and it works like a charm! It goes something like this:

1. "Ty, good night honey...love you! (Tuck, tuck)
2. Ty proceeds to bounce around his bed and destroy his bedroom
3. "Ty, good night" (Tuck, tuck...again)
4. Sit in Ty's room on the floor with our backs to him. Ty continues to jump on his bed, but does not get out!
5. Tuck, tuck without saying a word to little Ty
6. Resume your place on the floor with back turned to him.
7. Read Kindle, surf the net, blog!
8. Sleeping Ty!

As of right now, I am quite the multitasker....I am going all 'Super Nanny' on Ty and blogging!

We May Not Have It All Together...

But Together We Have It All.

I love this saying and I need to repeat this in my head during our day to day routine. We have been going through a bit of a 'rough patch' here at the Davis Homestead the past few weeks. Aiden has been off from school for nearly 2 1/2 weeks and he is more than ready to get back into his 'school routine' This kid is very 'Type A' and functions very well with a predictable routine (I don't know where he gets this from..ha!) We have been having fun doing some very fun things over these past few weeks,
water parks, hotels, visit to and from Grandparents,
BUT it is time to get back to NORMAL!!!

Tyson has been staging his own protest against sleeping! We had to go all 'Super Nanny' on him and we have regained control! Yes!

So, add 'Type A' child out of sorts and 'Sleep Deprived' child....NOT A GOOD COMBO!!

I have also been off my game. Not eating healthy and minimal exercise equals a very short fuse Mommy!

Not trying to sound negative, but this Blog isn't to protray our lives as perfect and fun all of the time. I have also learned over the past 5 years' of being a parent that things go in 'phases' with kids'. So, this is just a phase and I think a new phase is one the horizon for us!!!

Here is to a new month, getting back to our school routine, my favorite season (Fall), and some Hawkeye Football!!!!!
