The Mother of the Year!

So, it's been a bit of a long week around the Davis Homestead. Jeff is on 2nd shift and this always throws our schedule into a bit of a tailspin. I am usually pretty good at staying organized, but this week I am not on my game at all! It may be in part that my 'only a virus' head cold has lasted four weeks now (an appt to the doctor is on the schedule for tomorrowing morning) and getting up at 5 a.m. for the past three weeks to excercise is wearing on my not 100% body.

So, this brings me to my award that I am SO proud to share with all of you, Mother of the Year 2012! (And it's only January) Let me set the scence for you, I am trying to get supper done last night so that we can get out the door to Aiden's swim lessons. Ty crawls up onto the kitchen like he does 20 times per day and he totally biffed it! All was well and we carried on with supper prep. As I was getting food out of the oven, Ty then grabbed Aiden's medicine syringe from the kitchen counter and takes the whole dose...2 tbsp....of an Antihistamine! OK, I think to myself based on his age and weight, did he overdose?!? I mean he took the WHOLE dose!!! So, a friendly phone call to the Poison Control Center was made! After a 10 minute conversation with the greatest lady ever, I was told that based on his age/weight he did NOT overdose, but he may either be a) really tired or b) really hyperactive  (great! how much more hyper can he be?!?) I knew that the  tiredness or hyperactiveness were the side effects for a toddler for an antihistamine and I was so relieved that is all that I had to potentially deal with...a visit to the ER was not on our evening schedule! So, after hearing that he should be fine, we all piled into the van for swim lessons. I had this great idea all week to let Tyson swim while Aiden was having his lesson. The swimming was uneventful, but COULD have been another fine mothering moment...I forgot to put a swim diaper on Tyson...I mean no diaper at all! Great, that's all I needed to end my night was a clearing of the U of I Rec Center pool for the night because my 2 year old pooped in the pool!

Tyson was his normal self all night and the medicince didn't even phase him! So, after getting the boys' FINALLY to bed around 8:45, I called it a night with an episode of The Middle (love this show, it makes me feel good about my dysfunctional parenting skills at times) and I treated myself to potato chips AND an ice cream treat...and counted every Weight Watcher Point with great pride thank-you very much!

So, here I sit on Thursday night at 8:09 p.m. with both boys' tucked into bed enjoying the silence of my house. TGIF people....TGIF!

Doing the Potty Dance...but only the Chorus!

So, over the past week Tyson has ASKED us to use the potty. We of course were over the moon! I'm telling you this isn't just a tinkle here and there, it's fully emptying his little bladder (can you tell I work in Pediatric Urology?!?). So, last Wednesday on my day off I dusted off the training underwear and let him run around sporting these all day, with the exception of nap time. Only one accident and many M&M's later, he was getting the hang of it! This weekend he took it a step further and did the BIG ONE!!! (I'll let you figure this one out). He didn't only do this once on Saturday, but twice!

Now, with that being said, he still doesn't mind being out in public sporting his diaper and not asking to be changed from his wet bottom, but we are well on our way to being a diaper-free family!!!! Yippee! And, I am not brave enough to put him in underwear and venture out in public just yet so, I am totally OK with the chorus line for now!

Tech Support Please!

We recently bought a Blu-Ray player for the TV in our basement. It's been a good purchase thus far, but I would really like to give it some more time to see what that bad boy can do! I mean Amazon, Netflix, Vudo, and the list goes on and on for movies, TV shows, and music!

Which brought us to the rearranging of electronics 10 minutes before we had to leave for church this morning! I supervised while Jeff and the boys' got the DVD player that was in the basement installed in our upstairs living room.

Jeff is known in the family as 'Tech Support'....I mean come on, 'Geek Squad' may bruise his ego a bit! So, 'Tech Support' it has become. Well, Jeff found some Apprentices this morning who were willing to learn the trade! HDMI, Component 1, and this list goes on and on. Ahhh, one of the many perks of being the ONLY female in our homestead. I will soon have three 'Tech Supports' who can run all of my technological gadgets!

I was able to snap one picture of the 'Tech Session' before being asked to hold the TV while Jeff and Aiden plugged in the cables to the bottom of the TV and while Ty hammered the table with his wooden play hammer (don't tell him he was more in the way by this point). I was just happy that they included me in on the fun, but after all cables were securely in place and DVD's were all over the living room floor, Mama Bear, roared...okay, I didn't roar, but I gathered up my techy's and off the to church we went!

My New Years' Resolution...a year late

Well, I've been out of the 'blog world' for quite some time now and put, 'Start Blogging again!' on my New Years' Resolution list in January 2011 and here we are, January 2012 and it's getting crossed off my list! Better late than never, I guess.

I often think that my life is boring, but when I have a few minutues of peace to myself, and to be honest, this doesn't happen very often. (Jeff actually had to put the child-proof thingy back on the bathroom door knob this week because I can't even get a moment's peace during these times either with two wild boys' who have to be with their Mama EVERY WAKING MOMENT. I love them to pieces, but just sayin!)

Anyway, back to my boring life, well, it's not so boring when you live in my world of the never ending episode of WWE Wrestle Mania! There are everyday quirks that happen almost daily that I say to myself, 'I should really be writing this down' Like, I said never late than never!

So, here's to a start of a New Year and a new Davis Blog. Welcome back into our world!

With that being said, here is how we rang in the New Year! Yep, we were in bed by 9:30 p.m. and I am OK with this!

A cozy night at home with a good book and yes, that is our cat, Wrigley, not a small bear cub on our laps!

                   And....Happy 2012 at 7:00 p.m.! (love this sweet and strong-willed little boy)
